The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has mandated eight governors to stop the National Assembly from overriding the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari not to assent the sequence of elections as passed by the lawmakers.

The party said that APC government is a threat to the unity of the nation and called on youths in PDP, APC, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and other parties to defend Nigeria from the present crisis the ruling party has plunged the country into.

Meanwhile, PDP youths promised to mobilise 13 million votes for the party in the 2019 general elections.

At the familiarisation meeting of PDP state and zonal youth leaders organised by the National Youth Leader, Mr. Udeh Okoye, in Abuja on Wednesday, the party’s National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, said that any nation where its youths are apolitical is doomed.

Secondus said: “The APC government is a threat to the unity of Nigeria. So, wherever the youths are, whether they are in the PDP, APC or APGA, they must rise and defend this country because this is a nation in crisis.

“APC has visited on this nation insecurity and divisions. I have never seen a country so divided like this. I never knew any government in this country that practised nepotism such as the APC government. We have seen this country so divided by tribalism and nepotism and a collapsed economy as we have today. This government of APC has failed woefully.

“APC is planning to rig the 2019 elections and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is a parastatal of APC. The Executive arm of government wants to make laws which are not their area. They want to gag the National Assembly with a military fiat in a democracy. They want to sanction the National Assembly not to make laws.

“They were elected from their various constituencies across to make laws for the benefit of the common man and not for the cabal. I urge the APC to allow the National Assembly to make its laws because they were elected to make laws. We are not operating a military dictatorship.

“This is not the first time the National Assembly amended the Electoral Act. They have done so severally. Why is this case different? Eight governors of the APC have been constituted to begin to move from door-to-door of the members of National Assembly to cage them not to freely make laws for Nigeria. We reject that move and we insist that the will of Nigerians must be done. The will of Nigerians must prevail,” he said.

Earlier, Okoye said that the youths are mobilising on how to wrestle power from the APC.

He said: “We are mobilising the youths on how to wrestle power from the APC failed government. The youths are angry with this government. Our leaders have been wrongly accused and most of our leaders have been intimidated, harassed by the APC government. APC is protecting corrupt people. We are mobilising our people to stand firm with the PDP. The youths will garner more than 13 million votes for PDP in 2019.”
