Despite its earlier decision to delay the release of the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has made a volte- face and announced the release of the first batch of the results.
The examination, which began last week Friday and will end on 17th March in 605 centres across the federation, is being staggered to avoid congestion at the centres..
Spokesman of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, who confirmed the release of the UTME results to newsmen in Abuja, said the centres which had their results released were properly scrutinised, adding that the exercise will be done in batches.
He called on candidates who have sat for the examination to check the JAMB website for their results.
Recall that JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, had earlier vowed to delay the release of this year’s results, citing the need for proper scrutiny of CBT centres to minimise the issue of results cancellation.
“We want to monitor everything that happens through our CCT cameras. Last year, we proved a point that there is nothing extraordinary in the immediate release of results but we had to cancel some results when we found out what happened in some centres.
“So, if we have to take two or three days to look at the conduct of the candidates before releasing the result so as to minimise cancellation, then, we will do so,” Oloyede had said.
