The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) recently called on the federal government to support its bid to establish a medical that will cater for all the retirees who have served the country meritoriously. The National President, Dr Abel Afolayan, who made the appeal during the commissioning of the unionas national headquarters, decried the plight of the retired senior citizens especially in terms of healthcare.
By the way, is there not supposed to be a well-equipped medical centre for Nigeriaas senior citizens who have served their fatheras land? Shouldnat it be a project the federal government on its own thought to establish? Because like Dr Afolayan said, a?Nigeriaas retirees are helplessly dying due to lack of proper healthcare. Only a medical centre dedicated to pensioners, which also will offer cheap and affordable healthcare can save us.a?
Truly speaking, Nigeriaas senior citizens deserve better, donat they? Like what is obtainable in the developed world; where quality and prompt healthcare is provided for the retirees, Nigeria retirees deserve same. But in this case, they are not even asking government to solely establish a special medical centre for them but to assist them. Which means they in a way are asking government to consolidate their effort at achieve this very important project. Could there be any reason why the federal government should as a matter of urgency respond to this humble appeal of the Nigerian pensioners?
Even though these old a?retired but not tireda men and women have other wonderful ideas as clearly stated here. “We are seriously appealing for support from you (The Federal government and all her agencies). We already lined up more capital projects ahead of us. We have many laudable ideas inside us. So we are plead for more support from you in order for us to achieve them one by one”
a? They clearly specify that a healthcare centre is very sacrosanct to them, and it is indeed important to not just them but to Nigerians at large.
a?We want to have a medical centre, where we would be taking care of our aged members, we intend to establish the pensioners radio and television station were we can reach out to our members easily and also use it as a tool to pressurize the government and enlighten the public about the plight of our people all over the nation.a? The president reiterated.
With all these humble words for such a necessity that government need not to waste time to respond in favour of the pray, will the government play a deaf ear to it? Well, like the Yobe state governor rightly said that governors and even the federal government have no reason that should be accepted for not pay workerasa salaries as at when due, the federal government should also not give any reason why they should not assist the Nigerian Union of Pensioners to establish a medical centre.
