a�? Born on March 22nd, 1963, Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu hails from Onicha-Ukwu in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State. An economist by training, a serial entrepreneur and philanthropist, Elumelu is Founder and Chairman of Heirs Holdings Ltd, a privately held pan-African investment firm, with interests in the power, oil and gas, financial services and hospitality sectors.
a�? He is equally the Chairman of Transcorp, Nigeriaa��s largest listed conglomerate, and leading pan-African financial services group, United Bank for Africa, with presence in 19 African countries, and offices in Paris, London and New York.
a�? In 2010, Mr Elumelu created The Tony Elumelu Foundation, which champions African entrepreneurship. In January 2015, the Foundation launched the $100 million Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme to seed and support 10,000 African entrepreneurs over the next decade.

The Programme represents his personal commitment to the economic philosophy of a�?Africapitalisma�?, a development model he propagated that positions the African private sector a�� including its entrepreneurs a�� as the catalyst to ensuring Africaa��s sustainable social and economic development.

In 2013, Elumelu received the Leadership Award in Business and Philanthropy from the Africa-America Institute (AAI) Awards. And at the 5th edition of the annual Economic Forum of the Ivorian National Council of Employers, CGECI Academy, (CGECI) in Abidjan in April, 2016, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award. Thereafter from 11th to 13th May, of that year, he co-chaired the 26th World Economic Forum on Africa in Kigali, Rwanda.
