More facts have emerged on reasons behind the exclusion of Dalian Quanjian of China striker, Asisat Oshoala from the female national team, Super Falcons’ list to play an international friendly against France on Friday.
Though the star said she is facing work permit problems in China, sources close to the Falcons say her club refused to release her for Friday’s game in Le Mans, France because she overstayed her days of grace the last time she was allowed to travel out of her base.
The reigning African Women’s Footballer of The Year was not included in the 17-player list released by Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for the international friendly against France.
Oshoala was denied permission to represent her country by Quanjian due to overstaying in Nigeria, which caused her to report late for the clubs pre-season activities.
It means Oshoala, who earlier called for more matches, will be missing when the Falcons take on France on Friday, April 6 at Stade MMArena, Le Mans.
After a picking bronze at the first WAFU Women’s Cup in Ivory Coast, the Falcons and their new coach, Thomas Dennerby, aim to use the friendly against France as a preparatory game for the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) which will be held in Ghana.
However, aside Oshoala’s absence, the 17-player list has some other notable absentees, as a couple of top players were omitted from due to logistics issues as well as visa problems.
“Some players had visa and passport problems, another complained that she was unwell. Asisat Oshoala was in Coach Thomas Dennerby’s plans but her Chinese club was not ready to release her because she overstayed in Nigeria,” an official stated.
The Falcons’ full list has – Goalkeepers: Onyinyechukwu Okeke; Chiamaka Nnadozie; Defenders: Josephine Chukwunonye; Ngozi Ebere; Faith Ikidi; Ugo Njoku; Osinachi Ohale; Glory Ogbonna; Midfielders: Rita Chikwelu; Ngozi Okobi; Ini-Abasi Umotong; Ogonna Chukwudi; Forwards: Francisca Ordega; Desire Oparanozie; Courtney Dike; Esther Sunday; Anam Imo.
