Former Nigeria international, Emmanuel Amuneke has advised Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr to get a back-up striker for Odion Ighalo ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
He said that although Ighala is a striker, he lacks the instinct of a top 9.
“If you say he should play in that role as a striker, of course he will, but I must be sincere with you that he does not have the instinct that makes a real No.9 stand out.
Although the ex-Super Eagles winger believes Ighalo can deliver, he insists “he will need massive support from the creative players to get him to score. We need someone we can count on.”
Ighalo fired blanks in the Super Eagles’ last two games during the international break against Poland and Serbia and has scored four goals in 14 appearances for the three-time African champions.
Rohr has tried out Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho as alternatives during friendlies but former Barcelona star Amuneke argued that the pair does not possess the instincts of strikers.
