Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state, has flagged-off a road project that will facilitate movement of motorists to and fro Enugu and Anambra states.
The project a�� Nkwo-Inyi-Akpugoeze road a�� is domiciled in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu state. The council area has common boundary with some communities in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra state.
When the road project is completed, travelersa�� to old Aguata axis of Anambra state from Enugu can easily reach their destination by passing through Oji River town – linking Inyi- Akpugoeze communities – into Orumba South LGA in Anambra state, Instead of going through Awka, the state capital.
Governor Ugwuanyi on April 4, flagged-off the construction of the first phase of the Nkwo-Inyi-Akpugoeze road, with an assurance that the second phase of the road which will link Orumba South in Anambra state from Akpugoeze, will commence immediately thereafter.
Governor Ugwuanyi said the road project was in line with his administration’s policy to take development to all nooks and crannies of the state.
His words: In fulfillment of our mandate and resolve to take development to all corners of Enugu State; to alleviate the sufferings of our people in various communities; to restore hope and revive a sense of inclusion and integration among our people, we are here because of our commitment to the people of Oji River and to all rural communities in Enugu State.
a�?I want to assure you that it has always been the desire of our administration to construct this road as we are fully cognizant of its importance to the socio economic well being of the people of Akpugoeze and Oji River as a whole and also, to the realization of the state governmenta��s rural development objectives.a�?
The Managing Director Anbeez Services Ltd. the construction firm handling the project, Engr Anayo Onwuegbu, who hails from Akpugoeze, assured that the work will be completed within schedule, saying that the State Commissioner for Works, Engr Greg Nnaji, has handed over to him all the documents pertaining the road contract.
Chief Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu, a former governorship candidate on the platform of Social Democratic Party [SDP] in Enugu state, who also hails from the area, expressed happiness over the flag-off of the project.
Chief Gbazuagu, who is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), described Gov. Ugwuanyi as his friend and brother, stating that he maintains cordial relationship with him for the overall interest of the state, irrespective of party affiliation.
Another prominent politician and statesman from Oji River LGA, Dr. Hyde Onuaguluchi, described Governor Ugwuanyi, as a visionary and humble leader; an epitome of humility and God’s gift to the people of Enugu state.
In a welcome address read by Prof. Joshua Ifeanyichukwu Ume, the community expressed happiness over the flagging-off of the road project, promising to reward Governor Ugwuanyi at the appropriate time.
Governor Ugwuanyi later donated ten million naira on behalf of the state government to assist the community rebuild some of its failed physical infrastructure.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Oji River LGA, Hon. Harrison Okeke, thanked the governor for flagging-off construction work on the Nkwo-Inyi-Akpugoeze road project.
Many dignitaries including Hon, Toby Okechukwu, who represents Ani-Nri/Awgu/Oji River federal constituency in the House of Representatives, the Deputy Speaker, Enugu state House of Assembly, Hon. Don Uzogbado, the Enugu state PDP Chairman, Hon. Augustine Nnamani, and Senator Ben Collins attended the event.
