The Nigerian Air force has trained 200 youths in Kaduna State on fish farming through the initiative of Base Youths Empowerment Through Agriculture Scheme (BYETA)
According to agronigeria online, the empowerment programme whichA�held recentlyA�was part of efforts aimed at engaging restive youths in productive endeavours in order to avert social menace.
While speaking to newsmen at the event, the Air Officer Commanding Air Training Command, Kaduna, Air Vice MarshalA�Mohammed Adamu Idris said BYETA was commissioned in 2016 by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal, Sadique Abubakar a�� as an avenue in engaging the youths in productive activities.
Idris added that the scheme is, a�?aimed at promoting agriculture and employment among the youths in line with the Federal Government Green Alternative Agenda.
a�?Todaya��s ceremony is an additional drive of the NAF leadershipa��s resolve to develop the capacity of personnel and our children and also to give high priority to their welfare,a�? Idris stated.
He disclosed that the programme would be sustained through cooperative groupsa�� effort, income-generating and production of food.
a�?These include youth crop farmersa�� cooperative society, youth fish farmers, youth poultry farmers, livestock farmersa�� cooperative society,a�? he added.
Idris stated that participants for the scheme are registered under four cooperative societies, a�?equally we shall continue to explore other agricultural supports from government agencies and corporate farmers for various forms of assistance in terms of loans, seedlings, implements, feeds and any other support available,a�? he said.
