The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 16th edition of the annual Bishop Mike Okonkwo Football competition has promised a level playing ground for all the teams participating in the championship which kicked offA�SaturdayA�in Lagos.
Chairman of the LOC. Deacon Malachy Ndubuzor told our correspondent that like in previous editions, the rules will not be bend to favour any side and they are expecting a lot of goals to make the tournament interesting,
“I’m happy that this year’s edition started on a good note and in the first two games played, we’ve already recorded eight goals and we hope to see more goals which will make this year’s edition unique.
Ndubuzor, while explaining that The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, organizers of the tournament are happy to use the tournament as a platform for youths to showcase their talents, noted that the championship is getting better with every edition which has seen the introduction of female category in this year’s edition,A� promising that the successes recorded would be sustained.
Meanwhile, in some of the matches recorded in day one of the competition, defending champions, Young Talent 99 FC recorded an emphatic 4-0 victory over tournament debutant, Bravo Knights FC while Zion World FC recorded a ,3-2 victory over White Eagles FC just as the match betweenA� Nollywood FcA� and Young Vessels ended goalless.
A total of 64 male and 8 female teams are participating in this years tournament which is also organized to mark the 73rd birthday of Bishop Mike Okonkwo which comes up onA�September 6.
