Following the fire outbreak of the party Secretariat of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Imo State chapter, officers of the Nigerian Police Force have taken over the premises, while investigations surrounding the inferno has commenced.

Stern looking Policemen were seen at the entrance of the secretariat in police vehicle, at the Imo State University Junction in Owerri, preventing  entry into the secretariat as the building was under lock as nobody was seen within the premises.

The party secretariat was last Friday, engulfed in an inferno that left offices, vital documents, and office equipments destroyed, leading to the postponement of its Local Government congress, which later tool place peacefully yesterday.

Police Public Relations Officer for Imo State, SP Andrew Enwerem, while speaking with The AUTHORITY, stated that the police have taken over the State APC party secretariat even as it has commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fire incident.

Enwerem said “yes, we have taken temporarily possession of the party secretariat. It is to aid our investigations. It is also to avoid any further attack on the Secretariat and to make sure that peace is restored”, the PPRO said.

Imo APC is currently enmeshed in a leadership crisis as leaders of the party in the state have united to oust the incumbent Governor, Rochas Okorocha for hijacking its structure and circumventing due process.
