APC protesters storm Niger Govt House, destroys 10 vehicles

Aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State yesterday staged a protest at the gate of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello’s office and smashed over 10 vehicles at the Government House, Minna premises.

The AUTHORITY gathered that two factions of the ruling APC from the council clashed at the Government House gate.

 In the ensuing free-for-all, the protesters hauled stones on the vehicles and other public property in sight..

The protest was said to have been triggered by the recent appointment of a former commissioner as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Local Government Affairs.

A faction was against the appointment of the former commissioner and staged the protest at the Government House before they were countered by those loyal to the appointee.

Eyewitnesses said that that over 10 vehicles were smashed during the incident which also caused traffic gridlock along the road leading to Government House,

Some of the vehicles destroyed were seen at the Government Reserved Area (GRA) Police Station when The AUTHORITY visited while the road leading to Government House was littered with stones used during the clash.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Niger State Command, ASP Mohammed Inna Abubakar, confirmed the incident to The AUTHORITY.

He said: “Some miscreants wanted to cause trouble in front of Government House, but were dispersed by the police.”

Abubakar declined comment on the number of arrest made, insisting that investigation into the matter hadcommenced.
