The residents of Kubwa in Bwari Area Council have decried the indiscriminate dumping of refuse by scavengers popularly known as cart pushers who collect refuse from the residents for onward disposal.
They told The AUTHORITY that the cart pushers ‘Mai Bola’ collect refuse from the residents for a fee for them to dispose at designated points but instead empty the waste on water channels or any available open space.
One of the residents, Jummai Dantani said that the cart pushers who are supposed to help the residents dispose their waste properly have messed up the environment with their attitude.
Jummai added that the cart pushers collect the money and dump waste on the streets when nobody is watching thereby polluting the entire neighborhood.
“This ‘baban bola’ have made our waste management situation worse by dumping the refuse on water channels and open spaces,” she said
Mrs Philomena a resident of phase 3 the ooze from the refuse heep close to her business place has made life miserable as her customers no longer patronize her due to the offensive odour.
Philomena called on the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) and the Bwari environmental department to expedite actions to save the residents.
She also called on the authorities to evacuate the refuse dump at Phase3 Bridge and banned the activities of cart pushers.
