Ahead of the May 26 Local Government election in Nasarawa State, the State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), has disclosed that it has engaged the services of no fewer than Three Thousand (3000) ad-hoc staff to serve as polling clerks, presiding officers, returning officers and supervisors across the 13 Local Government areas.
The chairman of NASIEC, Mr. Henry John-Omaku, who made the disclosure at a press conference in Lafia on Tuesday, said the electoral officers as well as the adhoc staff are currently undergoing training for the task, adding that electoral guidelines have also been released by the commission.
He affirmed that the commission would not allow any unscrupulous politician to incite youths to engage in violence during and after the election in the state, while promising that commission will be deliver a free and fair election.
His words: “As we earlier mentioned, we are assuring you of free and fair elections and we believe that in subsequent elections, we may adopt the electronic voting as practiced in other states.”
