Angela Osaigbovo of the Supreme Educational Foundation, Magodo has emerged overall winner of the 3rd edition of the Rabiu Adeola Under-12 Scrabble Championships held at the Lagos Country Club Ikeja on Wednesday after four rounds of intense display of word craft by all the 18 schools that took part in the annual event.
Angela, who amassed a cumulative score of +929 spreads, was unstoppable through all the rounds winning four games to come up tops to cart home with giant trophy, a gold medal and educational gift items.
The second position went to another Supreme Educational Foundation student, Bamidele Sharon. The silver medalist scored a total of +572 spread with four wins while George Ime George of Topfield College, Ajegunle was third with four wins and +450 spread.
All the participating students also went home home with juicy gifts.
Organiser and sponsor of the event, Bimbo Adeola who was elated with the turn out of the students, promised to make the next edition bigger and better.
“I’m overjoyed with the response by schools and the skills displayed by the young competitors. I’m excited to sponsor the competition every year because it’s my own little way to give back to the society and contribute to the growth of sports in Nigeria. Our dream is make them world beaters which we will achieve as the competition keeps getting more recognised,” he said.
He also appealed to parents to allow their kids play the game.
“It’s a blend of sports and education. We hope parents will allow their children play the game as it helps them academically. It’s also much more exciting because the first two winners are girls. I thank God for the success. Definitely, next year will surely be better.”
