It will be recalled that the Executive Secretary, Sharon Ikeazor had assured pensioners that their entitlements will be computed and they would be enrolled to receive monthly pension payments even as approval is been sought to clear all arrears for pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).
The Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD) started verification of defunct and privatised agencies in Q4 2017, with the verification of Federal Housing Authority (FHA), New Nigerian Newspapers (NNN), NICON, Nigerian-Re and Delta Steel Company (DSC) pensioners across the country. In Q1 2018, pensioners from the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) and its subsidiary, Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTEL), were verified and the computation of their benefits is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Directorate has, as at March 2018, added 7,969 Civil Service Pensioners to its payroll to receive regular monthly pension payments. These Pensioners were verified in the South West & North Central in Q4 2017.
The addition of this group has improved the economic livelihood of pensioners who have been deprived of their rights for a long period. Thus, further supporting the role of PTAD in making sure the labors of our heroes is not in vain. Before this addition, over 19,500 verified Civil Service pensioners from the North West, South East, North East and South South had been reinstated and paid their arrears.
Also ongoing is the computation of benefits for over 5,000 verified Civil Service Pensioners. This will conclude the payrolling of all verified Civil Service Pensioners
In January 2018, the Civil Service Pension Department (CSPD) paid N2.215bn to 111,525 pensioners, 219 Retired Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Service. For the month of February, N2.216bn was paid and in March, N2.216bn was paid to pensioners, Retired Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Service.
