Everlasting Gospel Leader, Olumba Olumba Obu speaks on forgiveness

Sole Spiritual Head, Everlasting Gospel Leader, Olumba Olumba Obusays forgiveness is key. Quoting our Lord Jesus Christ he said “Reconciled with thy brother and then come back and offer thy gift.” CYRIACUS NNAJI reports.

According to the Sole Spiritual Leader of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, Olumba Olumba Obu, recently came out with a thought-provoking and deep-rooted question on how to forgive, saying our Lord Jesus Christ pleaded with God to forgive those who crucified him, saying ‘I forgive them for they know not what they were doing.’

He said this singular plea to God Almighty by the Lord Jesus Christ is quite instructive as it goes a long way in showing how he loved his crucifiers, despite their evil deeds. He further stated that forgiveness can also lead to peace, orderliness and tranquility, thereby evading hatred, sin, grumbling, gossiping and other evil manners today.

“Forgiveness is very important, if we do not want to further add more controversies in any issue without consultations. First in the book of Mathew 5:23-24, Our Lord Jesus Christ said ‘therefore, if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there remembers that thy brother hath faulted against thee, leave there thy gift before the altar and go thy way. First, be reconciled with thy brother and then come back and offer thy gift.’ “

He further said “Brethren, what this passage simply means to us is that we should first of all forgive our offenders before we bring any gift of sacrifice to God.

“Again, in the book of Luke 17:3-4, Our Lord also said ‘‘Take heed to yourselves, if thy brother trespasses against thee, rebuke him and if he repents; forgive him.’ This is indeed an important message to all human beings as it goes a long way in saying that if we are offended by anyone or our brethren, we should endeavor to pardon them and forget about the offence. Meanwhile, the book of Mathew 18:21-23 emphasizes on the need to always forgive those who offend us seventy-seven times. If God Himself does not portray an unforgiveness trait in Him, how do we his creatures never want to forgive?” he queried.

According to the Holy Bible, ‘To err is human, to forgive is divine.’ However, one thing everyone should know is DIVINITY. The word, divine, is not in any way related or attached to ordinariness.

The Everlasting Gospel Leader however linked forgiveness to divinity saying, “Our Almighty Creator, God, would have disciplined us severally, based on our sins and iniquities. Our Lord God however overlooked our dirty ways and concentrated on how we would eventually make His kingdom.

“According to a simple definition, forgiveness means ignoring the bad deeds of people, both close ones and outsiders. In life, we have all come across various disappointments, which we perceive as non-forgiving, but the Holy Bible has let us know through Mathew 18:22 that, ‘‘To forgive is Divine,’, which means to forgive and totally eradicate anybody’s sin(s) from our heart is like behaving just like the Almighty God. At times, forgiveness may be very difficult to display, based on the level of sins committed by the offender, but if the offender is an unrepentant follower of God’s words and instruction, he or she would definitely pave way for forgiveness.”
