The Ministry of Science and Technology is to collaborate with the Nigerian Association of Neurological Surgeons to significantly reduce many health hazards associated with road accident.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Amina Shamaki said this when the executive of the Nigerian Association of Neurological Surgeons visited her in Abuja.
A statement by the Ministry quoted her to have said that “the commonest cause of head injuries is motorcycle accidents caused by careless riders”.
She added that the Ministry will soon develop safety kits to save the lives of users.
The Ministry, she further said, is a service-oriented, one ready to avail its research findings for the benefit of the society.
Dr. Shamaki also assured the neurological body of the Ministry’s support in hosting the congress of Continental African Association of Neurological Surgeons (CAANS) scheduled to take place in July. She assured the visiting team that relevant research agencies of the Ministry will partner with the body to make the conference successful.
Earlier, the President of the Neurological Surgeons, Prof. B.B Shehu said though formal training in Neurological study began 30 years ago, Nigeria can only boast of 78 Neuro-Surgeons to cater for 200million people.
He appealed for the assistance of the Ministry to ensure the success of the forthcoming congress of the Continental African Association of Neurological Surgeons.
