The market share of the Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL) has hit 48 per cent making it market leader in the country.
Acting Managing Director of SAHCOL, Mr. Basil Agboarumi, who disclosed this yesterday in an interaction with aviation journalists at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, said prior to privatisation of the company in 2009 it had 21 per cent market share which today has grown to 48 per cent.
He said this could be credited to the integrity which he said the company has kept over the years; “we keep to our word. If we say we’ll do this we do it and even surpass the promise we made,” also stressing that its warehouse was not just the best in the sub-region, but in the entire continent.
However, Agboarumi said the company has remained humble not resting on its oars but doing its best to keep growing.
According to him, most of the local and foreign carriers are now willing to do business with the organisation, stressing that privatisation had led to the acquisition of state-of-the-art facilities by the company, which had contributed to the growth of its clientele
He said: “We’ve had players coming into SAHCOL but that have not allowed pride to enter us, we’re growing and we we’ll continue to grow. We still need opportunities to do better. We know we are growing and closing the gaps. For example, before SAHCOL was privatised in 2009, we maintained about 21 per cent of the market share, but today to the glory of God, we have grown to about 48 per cent and we are not stopping there, we are still growing.
“Part of what we need to do is to train our staff and get modern and state-of-the-art equipment into the system and that is what we are doing and closing the existing gaps even as we are stepping up on our services.”
There are three major aviation handling companies in the country, Nigeria Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO aviance), SAHCOL and Precision Aviation Handling Company (PAHCOL) in addition to two smaller ones but SAHCOL has taken over from NAHCO aviance as the number one in the country.
