Yobe 2019: Gov Geidam, Senators at war over successor

June 6th, 2018

All ios not well in the house of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Yobe, as the States’ Senators have pitched themselves against the Governor, Ibrahim Geidam over his choice of successor ahead of the 2019 governorship poll.

It would be recalled that the State has not come out of the internal crisis that erupted at its last Ward, Local Government and State congresses, with the conduct of parallel congresses at the State level, which has produced two factions of the State APC.

It was gathered that one of the factions, which the Governors and his supporters have branded Äbuja group,” with Senators Bukar Abba Ibrahim, Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, the Senate majority leader, as well as Hon. Goni Bukar Lawan and others are against the Governor’s group, especially as the party prepares the list of its delegates to the June 23 APC National Convention.

The Bukar Abba-led faction told newsmen in Damaturu that they want primary election to be conducted among all politicians seeking the governorship seat on the APC ticket, as against alleged plan by Governor Ibrahim Gaidam to impose his anointed candidate on the party.

The faction, which accused the Governor of trying to derail the progress of the APC in the State, warned that any candidate imposed on them by him would lead to APC losing in the state.

“That candidate will fail woefully because we will work against such candidate. We are in a democratic system and not under military rule where imposition of candidate is becoming the order of the day. We are tired of selfish interest and we want democracy to begin to work in our State. So we would not agree with candidates that are not competent,” they warned.
