The outgoing Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Mike Okiro, has approved the promotion of two Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) to the rank of CPs and 3,647 other senior officers to their next rank.
The assignment was the last one carried out by the former PSC chairman before the end of his tenure which expired on June 11. The promotions have since been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, for implementation in a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary/ Secretary to the Commission, Mr Musa Istifanus.
In a statement by the PSC Spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, the promotion was the high point of the Commission’s 28th plenary meeting last week.
The two CPs promoted to the rank of AIGs, the statement revealed, are Igbodo O. David, CP, Legal, Force Headquarters and Olalekan Abdulfatai, CP, Works also of Force Headquarters.
The breakdown of officers who benefited from the promotion included 16 DCPs promoted to CPs, 13 ACPs to DCPs, 60 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to ACPs and 631 Superintendents of Police (SPs) to Chief Superintendents (CSPs).
The Commission, the statement said, also approved the promotion of 820 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to substantive SPs.
Others, whose promotions were approved by the Commission, included 1,922 ASPs to DSPs. Also 201 inspectors were promoted to ASPs.
The Commission also approved confirmation of appointments of 42 officers of different ranks, approved acting appointment for another 73 and converted 1,060 Specialists to General Duty.
