MAURICE OKAFOR reports that there is now increasing hope that the dilapidated structures of Nigerian Union of Journalists [NUJ], Enugu state Press Center will be refurbished to meet up with standard of modern buildings.
The Enugu NUJ Press Center which is located along Rangers avenue, Independence layout axis of Enugu metropolis equally is the NUJ Zone C national headquarters (comprising of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi and Imo state chapters of the union).
The expectations of uplifting the Enugu state NUJ building to satisfy the taste of the moment is coming through the magnanimity of Prince 9Engr) Lawrence Eze, a Port Harcourt based industrialist cum Philanthropist who is a son of the soil, from Mbulumbu community in Nkanu East local government area of Enugu state.
Prince Engr Lawrence Eze who recently constructed a 4,5 kilometer asphalted road stretching from his immediate community,Mbulumbu to some other communities in Nkanu East local government area of Enugu state said he is embarking on the project of renovation of Enugu Press center because of his passion for Journalists, which stems on the arduous tasks they perform in shaping the society.
In a brief chat with news men in Enugu on Thursday, June 14,Prince Eze disclosed that he has already brought a team of Engineers from Port Harcourt to evaluate the cost of refurbishing the Enugu press center, and as soon as the evaluation is ready he will set some actions in motion.
He commended the present state chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists[NUJ],Enugu state chapter, Mr Rex Arum for his diligent and wisdom to have approached him to come to the aid of the center, instead of asking for personal favour from him.
Earlier on, the state chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists [NUJ],Enugu State chapter, Comrade Rex Arum said he had never slept with his two eyes closed because of the precarious and state of dilapidation he met Enugu NUJ Press Center and vowed to make a change.
He expressed gratitude to Prince Engr Lawrence Eze for accepting his pleas to come to the aid of the council and prayed God to grant him wider scope and position to continue helping humanity, in as much as the Enugu state chapter of the union will stand behind him.
