ISAAC OJO reports that the Safety Chapol Nigeria, through the Environmental Safety Chapol (ESCHAPOL) last weekend rocked the commercial city of Onitsha when it embarked on sensitization of the residents on the need to take the issue of environmental safety and security seriously.
The week long sensitization program came to the climax with a safety walk and visit to the Onitsha Area Command of Nigeria Police Force (NPF), 33 Police station and a thanksgiving service at the Grace of God Mission, Nkwelle Ezunaka district (Jesus Clinic).
The Commander of Safety Chapol, Rev Dr Nze Emmanuel while speaking at Onitsha Area Command of NPF revealed that the weeklong activities were meant to mark the UNO Environment Week.
He said that environment is strategically important to human beings because human beings are products of their environment noting that many have been killed by their environment due to pollution and other forms of abuses.
The Safety Chapol Commander said that the theme of 2018 UN environment week is centered on the threat posed by cellophane and plastic material and that the organisation all through the week had embarked on seminars and symposiums to educate the populace on how best to handle the items.
He said that the one thousand and five hundred members of Safety Chapol are responsible citizens who are eager to serve their fatherland by preventing crime and criminality in their area of influence.
Dr Emmanuel noted that the efforts of regular and conventional security organisations will not to produce much dividends once the environment is not safe which according to him was the reason why Safety Chapol took the campaign to police stations.
In his comment, the Area Commander in charge of Onitsha Area Command of NPF, Mallam Abubakar Yahaya(ACP) speaking through his second in command Mr Bawa Saleh(CSP) said the police is ready to partner with the organisation and other lawful organisations.
Mr Saleh said further that the need to partner for cross fertilization of security ideas cannot be overemphasized in tacking crimes and criminality.
Also, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of 33 police station, Mrs Regina Mbanefo (CSP) commended the Safety Chapol for the initiative of educating law enforcement agents on issues that poses dangers in an environment.
Mrs Mbanefo urged the leadership and members of Safety Chapol to always be above board noting that they can make arrest and handover the arrested suspect to the police for thorough investigation and prosecution.
