UniJos confers Honorary Doctorate Degree on Danbatta

President Muhammadu Buhari has lauded the outstanding contributions of the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC), Prof Umar Danbatta, to national development as a result of the commission’s interventions in the nation’s tertiary institutions, stressing that only quality education produced in good universities can instigate rapid social economic and technological changes needed to guarantee a secured future.

The President stated this over the weekend in Jos, Plateau state while congratulating graduands and honorarians at the 29th and 30th combined Convocation of the University of Jos which had the NCC boss conferred with the degree of Doctor of Science, for unique and outstanding contributions to national development and other growth of humanity.

“My special congratulations are reserved for all the graduands of today including the three distinguished Nigerians conferred with honorary doctorate degrees in recognition of their laudable services to their mother land”, he said.

Represented by the Executive Secretary Nigerian Universities Commision, Rasheed Abubakar the President restated his administration’s commitment in the fight against corruption, improvement of security and economic stimulation to create more employment opportunities and reform the educational sector.

Speaking to journalists, Danbatta said he feels a sense of satisfaction for his modest accomplishments and recognitions which could be attested to by the various awards and accolades received by NCC adding that he would prefer Nigerians to be the judge of their accomplishments over the past three years.

He restated the commission’s unending campaign to educate consumers on the ‘422’ Do Not Disturb facility, and the toll free number 622 to lodge complains. He said measures are in place to stop forceful subscription of value added services on consumers especially ringing tones and that it intends to do evaluation and decide on the next course of regulatory action.

The Vice Chancellor of University of Jos, Sebastian Maimoko while congratulating the honorarians tasked them not to relent in their good works adding that measures are in place to strengthen their capacity in effective and efficient financial Management, deployment of ICT, good corporate governance, corruption eradication as well as to encourage the culture of team building.
