Tension has engulfed Imo State as members of Imo State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere.
The lawmakers had been embroiled in an infighting over the impeachment which resulted in the suspension of three lawmakers believed to be sympathetic to the Deputy Governor.
The Deputy Governor had some months ago fell out with Governor Rochas Okorocha over his alleged refusal to support the Governor’s son in-law who doubles as the Chief of Staff, Chief Uche Nwosu to succeed Okorocha in 2019.
Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Hon Ugonna Ozuruigbo had moved the motion which the lawmakers supported.
The Deputy Governor is currently in alliance with other politicians against Okorocha within the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Meanwhile, armed security men have cordoned off the area, while businesses within the vicinity have closed down for the day over fears that crises may ensue from the proceedings.
