Residents of kucheri town in Tsafe local government of Zamfara state are still fleeing the town following the killing of the district head of the area, ALhaji Ibrahim Bobi by unknown gunmen.
The tragedy happened few hours after the deceased district head attended a meeting which was held at the palace of the Emir of Tsafe during which a lot of security issues were discussed.
Few minutes after returning from the meeting, a large number of unknown gunmen stormed the residence of the district head on motorbikes with each one carrying three people excluding those who trekked.
Numbering over 100 and fully armed with different sophisticated weapons, they started shooting sporadically to scare the people after which they came straight to the district head.
The district head who was sitting on a mat alongside some of his subjects who decided to remain with him refused to be scared by the gunshots.
He was ordered by the criminals to follow them to the bush, but he out rightly replied them that he would not leave even if they are to kill him.
After turning down their invitation and exchange of hot words between them, they shot him in the head and cut his body into pieces.
Some of the residents who spoke to our reporter explained that the elimination of the late Ibrahim Bobi may not be unconnected with his utterances at the meeting. “We believe that he was killed because of what he suggested during the meeting, and his suggestion was not in favour of the criminals,” explained Sa’idu Mamman , a resident of the town, who also witnessed the crisis. Said he, “and this proved to us that these criminals have informers in every group of people who are assisting them with the information of what is the plan against them,” he added.
“The surprise was that only the district head was killed apart from one insane passerby.. So there is still a lot to be done in addressing the insecurity issue in not only Tsafe emirate, but the entire state,” stated one, Kabiru MajiKira, also a resident of the town who even sustained injury in an attempt to escape.
All effort to talk to the police proved abortive as the spokesperson of the command, DSP Muhammed Shehu’s cell phone did not go through as at press time..
