Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Yufus Lasun, was the first to pick his expression of interest and nomination form in Abuja, ahead of the APC governorship election primary for the September governorship poll in Osun State.
Lasun, who spoke after obtaining his form, also warned his party against the planned Direct Primaries to elect the governorship candidate of the party , describing it as unconstitutional.
He argued that APC had conducted governorship primaries in six states since it came to power and there was no place that Direct Primaries was conducted.
“Like the rumours going on in Osun State today, that they are going to do direct primaries, and I keep telling people that nobody will do that in APC.
“Between now and 2015 we have conducted primaries in 6 States to pick the governorship candidates, we have Kogi, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Anambra, Beyelse to pick governorship candidate through delegate system. So, if anybody is now coming to say it is direct primaries, the person should know that Osun State has 332 Wards, so how do we now conduct direct primaries in that number of Wards and not to forget that there were so many parallel elections in States. All we need is fairness, and the people involve are convinced they are fair.”
He described himself as most qualified and experienced aspirant to the position of Osun Governor, adding that his experience at the House of Representatives stands him out.
Talking about his experience, he said, “No one has the experience l have as the member of the House of Representatives .
“I have contributed positively on the floor of the house, which has impacted positively to Nigerians. As the chairman, ad hoc committee of constitution review in the House – this is first in the history of the democacy of Nigeria, the national assembly would conclude matters of constitutional alterations within 2 years“.
He hinted that his campaign promises are geared towards reducing poverty level among Women in Osun State by creating an enabling environment that would evolve around the socio economic development of the state.”
