The Enugu state police command said one person has been arrested over his alleged role in the adoption of a Catholic priest, Rev Fr Paulinus Udewangu of St Mark’s Catholic Church, Nsude in Udi local government area of the state. His abductors had demanded a one hundred million naira ransom for his release.
The Enugu state Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Ebere Amarauizu [DSP] stated this in a press statement he issued yesterday, a copy of which was made available to The Authority, stating that the victim was rescued within Udi/Ozalla thick forest linking ‘four Corner’ axis  near Enugu.

According to Amaraizu, Rev Fr Udewangu who was abducted on Wednesday along Nsude/Obioma road while he was jogging, eventually regained his freedom on Saturday without paying a ransom.

He disclosed that the police acting on intelligence information mounted intensive search and pressure mounted within their enclave in Udi/Ozalla forests, and the moment they observed that the police was closing up on them, they left their victim and ran away.

He said the police have commenced detailed investigation into the incident and the suspect whose name he did not disclose is helping the police in their investigations.
