Ekiti Election: Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) seek active participation

In order to be actively involved in Civic responsibilities, the persons living with disabilities (PWDs) prior to Ekiti Governorship Election organised a programme on Thursday in Ado Ekiti to establish their presence in the state and present their modalities and requests to INEC to enable them perform their civic roles, and to also enable the group receive INEC feedback on the request.
The town hall programme which came up at Hillmart Hotel, Awedele, in Ado Ekiti had in attendance representatives of America Embassy, European Union, INEC officials, the chairman of inter party advisory committee IPAC – Mr Ilesanmi Omolayo
The persons with disability engaged the officials on discussions on how to give them enabling opportunity to enable them perform Civic roles.
The officials promised to give necessary supports to people with disability for their inclusion in electoral process.
Earlier, the group of the persons living with disabilities which comprises of Albino and other persons of different natural challenges on Wed had paid homage to the Ewi of Ado Ekiti- Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe to receive royal blessing from the Monarch.
Speaking on behalf of the group at the Ewi’s palace, the National President and founder of Albino Foundation, Mr Jake Epelle said’’ Albino Foundation founded 13 years ago has come to Ekiti to establish its presence.
He said ‘’we are here to implement European Union with person living with disability
Epelle lamented that’’ persons with disabilities have not been properly mainstream in electoral system’’
He therefore request for assistance of the monarch to ask INEC do the needful.
The President of Albino Foundation said ‘’we have given INEC the raw data of persons with different disabilities as necessary tools to work with us ‘’
He commended Oba Adejugbe on his usual efforts in providing solution to the plight of persons with disabilities.
Oba Adejugbe in his response said ‘’as far as Ekiti community is concerned, we don’t regard them as persons with disabilities, we married them, the difference is skin, it’s only God that can explain it’s a gift of nature.
‘’We are here for you, we‘ll ensure INEC do the job with fear of God, they would not be partial, because we have been meeting with them’’.
Oba Adejugbe commended the group, for the efforts, saying what the group has done, complements the efforts of royal fathers in making society free for everybody.
