From Suleiman isah, Minna
Former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) has pledged his unalloyed support for the presidential ambition of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN).
Babangida said that Turaki’s policies and programmes would foster unity in Nigeria
He stated this when the aspirant visited him at his hilltop residence in Minna, the Niger State capital
Turaki had told his host that insecurity, decline in the national economy as well as increasing unemployment among the youths were the major challenges he would tackle when he elected president in 2019.
“From your agenda I believe that you mean well for this country. I think if you are given the chance Nigeria will witness tremendous development. Your roadmap can lead Nigeria to prosperity,” Babangida said.
The former leader also supported the call by Turaki for the unity of Nigeria to be held above all other issues, saying that “Nigeria has never been so divided.”
Turaki who came to Babangida to seek his support for the realisation of his ambition said that he is the best candidate for the presidency of Nigeria.
He said that if voted into power he would implement policies and programmes that would bring succour to Nigerians
Addressing stakeholders at the PDP Secretariat, the aspirant said that no fewer than 22 of the 36 states in the federation were facing security challenges and deployed the rivalry among the country’s security chiefs
“Insecurity is now spreading to Sokoto, Niger, and Kebbi. In fact no fewer than 22 states in the country are under one form of insecurity or the other,” he said
He blamed the All Progressives Congress (APC) government for “opening the door for theft of public funds,” pointing out that “corruption in public offices is worse than during the PDP era.
The state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Tanko Beji and his executives applauded the transparency of the aspirant when he was a Minister of Special Duties, saying that he was one Nigerian that has “lived a clean life despite all the key positions he had occupied.”
