One hundred and eighty six Benue State women participated in the one week free medical programme sponsored by the Office of the Wife of the Governor of the state Dr. (Mrs) Eunice Ortom, in collaboration with the Bingham University Teaching Hospital (Evangel VVF Centre) Jos, Plateau State.
Out of this number, 105 were seen and treated of various genital diseases. 11 underwent fistula operation while another set of 31 with complex fistula cases were referred to the Centre head office in Jos for further medical attention.
Assistant Team Leader, Evangel VVF Centre Jos, Dr. Jemimah Agyema, dislosed this to newsmen at the Bishop Murray Medical Centre, Makurdi, while rounding up the week-long programme.
She informed that seven patients with other cases such as cervix cancer and VVF polers were also referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, for continued medical attention.
Speaking, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Samuel Ortom on Administration and ICT in the Office of the Benue State First Lady, Daniel Gbabo, stated that the event was one in the series of such by the wife of the governor.
He said the governor’s wife having underscored the importance of a healthy living especially as it regarded women, elderly and children has been intervening in collaboration with partner and agencies in seen that women who could not afford to foot huge medical bills were availed access to health care.
