Former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida rtd, has challenged the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to organise a credible presidential primaries if it must clinch power at the center in 2019 general elections
Babangida advised that the party should learn from its past mistakes, which he noted led to its defeat during the 2015 general election, saying that the aspirants should not see the contest as a do-or-die affair.
IBB, who spoke at his Minna home, when he received one of the party’s presidential aspirants and former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, called for intensive political education
“The PDP cannot afford to go through another crisis and therefore should ensure that there is fairness and transparency in all its dealings, including the forthcoming primaries of the party at all levels.
“All the aspirants who have signified their interest to contest the presidency under the party have the capacity to lead the country out of it present predicament.” IBB noted, adding that Bafarawa has intimidating political credentials, good enough to pilot the affairs of the country.
Earlier, Bafarawa told General Babangida that he was going in to the race to right the wrongs and move the country toward a sustainable development were every Nigerian would be proud to say that there is democracy in action
