Another attempt by a pro Biafra group known as Biafra Zionists Federation[BZF],led by Mr Benjamin Onwuka to enter the Enugu state government house and make a declaration for an independent state of Biafra was yesterday waged by Security agencies.
The Group marched through the Presidential road and the Rangers avenue axis of Independence layout with intention of linking the government house through Bisalla road but were halted by a combined team of security operatives from the Department of State Services,DSS and the Nigerian Police.
The Authority gathered that their blunt refusal to reverse their movement as was ordered by the security operatives compelled the security officials to bundle them into a waiting security van and drove them away.
One of their colleagues who claimed to be deputy leader of the group, Mazi Ambrose Ugwu, told journalists that he is yet to know where they were taken, stating he had visited the state CID but did not get any clue of their whereabout.
His words, “Our people left this morning (Monday) for the Enugu Government House to foist the Biafra flag, but they were stopped on getting to close to the road to leading to the place’.
“DSS operatives stopped them from entering the Government House. They told them to stay within the Bissala Road axis and do whatever they wanted to do.
However, our leader refused, insisting that he must be allowed to enter the Government House. After a while, they brought vehicles and told them to enter, claiming that they were taking them to a place for a dialogue’.
“As we speak, we have not heard from them. As far as we are concerned, this is abduction, because they were taken to unknown place. We have gone to the State CID but they are not being detained them.
“We are, therefore, calling on the international community, especially, US President Donald Trump and the Prime Minister of Israel to intervene for their immediate release.
“From the information I have, over 50 of them were arrested; they were not armed; they are just freedom fighters. Should anything happen to them, we will hold the South-East Governors responsible,” Ugwu said.
Attempts to let the Enugu state police public relations officer[PPRO], Mr Ebere Amaraizu[DSP] confirm this story on where Benjamin Onwuka and his group were being detained before filling this report was not successful. Amaraizu didn’t reply to the text message forwarded to him, his phone was switched off.
The Authority recalled that Mr Benjamin Onwuka, who claims to be a British trained lawyer and his group had made previous attempts to enter the Enugu state government house to hoist the Biafra flag but were rebuffed by security agencies. About three years ago, he led a group alleged to be armed to take over the Enugu State Broadcasting Service[ESBS],state owned radio with intention of pronouncing an independent state of Biafra from it.
His group was eventually overpowered by security agencies who came on a rescue mission. Onwuka and few others who masterminded the coup to take over ESBS were throne into detention. Less than a year after his release,he has re embarked on his acclaimed mission to secure an independent state of Biafra with a strategy of hoisting Biafra flag at Enugu state government house.
