Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, then of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday revealed that he actually rooted for President Muhammadu Buhari and the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2015 presidential election.
Akpabio, who recently defected from the PDP to the APC, has been campaigning for the party and Buhari to record a landslide victory in the state come 2019 election.
Speaking at the Aso Rock Villa when he led a delegation of Akwa Ibom politicians and elders to a meeting with Buhari, Akpabio said that he only refrained from voting for Buhari and the APC in 2015 against then President Goodluck Jonathan to avoid being accused of anti-party activity.
The Senator also regretted that although he was a PDP governor, Akwa Ibom State did not benefit much in terms of infrastructure, as the Federal Government did not construct even a kilometre of road during his eight-year tenure.
Akpabio who was Chairman PDP Governors’ Forum enthused that Akwa Ibom would be the first state in the South-South to be won by the APC in the 2019 general elections, stressing that already what remained of the PDP in the state was mere carcass as the body and soul of the party had joined the APC.
He revealed that he begged President Buhari to be part of the presidential delegation to Beijing, China for FOCAC meeting recently, adding that that was where the plan for the meeting with the elders was brokered.
Some members of the delegation included Umana Umana, Nkere Nsima, Otoekong Jackson Sunny Udoh, Eseme Oyibo, Akpan Udoedehe, Ita Enang, and some National Assembly members.
