The Nigeria Security and Civil and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have raised the alarm over an impending security crisis in Borno State, ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The NSCDC in Borno on Tuesday decried the recruitment of armed thugs for political campaigns by note able politicians in the State.
It was gathered that Borno State topped the list of aspirants angling to replace the outgoing governor, Shetimma on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, where about 20 aspirants have returned their nomination forms and getting set for the party’s primary to elect its governorship candidate on September 29.
Borno State the NSCDC Commandant, Ibrahim Abdulahi, told Newsmen in Maiduguri that the command had noticed an influx of such thugs at campaign grounds.
Abdullahi said that the thugs were being used by politicians to intimidate opponents at political rallies.
“Such actions by these politicians could mar the fragile peace recorded. The insurgents can equally disguise among them to perpetrate unsuspected attacks.
“We, therefore, warn politicians that these nefarious activities are contrary to Section 227 of the 1999 constitution (as amended) and Sections 94 and 95 of the Electoral Act,’’ he said.
