Ahead of the All Progressives Congress Primaries, the Director General, Otuekong Inibehe Okori campaign organisation, Dr Clement Bassey, has advised the senator representing Akwa Ibom Northwest senatorial district, Sen Godswill Akpabio, to drop his second term senatorial ambition for Inibehe Okori.
He insisted it is the turn of Abak 5 to produce the next senator for the district.
Bassey who was addressing leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) faithful during a consultation visit on Etim Ekpo chapter of the party at Utu, by the senatorial aspirant of the party, Otuekong Inibehe Okori lamented that Abak 5 have never produced a senator since the inception of democracy in the country.
“When Otuekong contested for the senatorial seat in 2015 against Chief Godswill Akpabio of the People’s Democratic Party and lost due to the influence of the powers that be in Abuja, it was resolved by the APC leadership in the state that Abak 5 which has never occupied the senate position should be given the slot.
“There is no way Sen Akpabio who has just defected to the APC from the PDP can change the political permutations of the party. If he is politician who appreciates zoning which has taken him this far, he should drop his ambition for a second term so, he will not lost shamefully” Bassey advised
He commended the leadership of the party for endorsing direct primaries as the standard rule for choosing candidates to fly the party’s flag in the 2019 general elections adding this “will give room for aspirants to test their popularity at the grassroots.
“We are on ground. Direct primaries is about grass root mobilisation. Otuekong Okori is a grass root politician nobody can take that from him. Sen Akpabio is a politician without a grassroots’ base” the DG further stated.
Also speaking at the rally, the Etim Ekpo APC chapter chairman, Pastor Edidiong Edio, assured that all the members of the party in the local government area will line behind Okori for senate.
Edio said, “As I speak, this is the only candidate who is going around soliciting for the people’s support so how can he lost. This is the time for Abak five to produce the next senator and are solidly behind Inibehe come 2019.
In his remarks, Otuekong Inibehe Okori who was full of appreciation to the people for the massive turnout, advised the people not to sell their rights as it is the turn of Etim Ekpo to produce the next Senator for the district.
