…CJN commends Wike for upgrading Judiciary in Rivers

It was jubilation on Wednesday at the Sharks Stadium Part Harcourt, when the Rivers State Governor, Barr Nyesom Wike, announced the award of N45million to participatory gruop who takes 1st, 2nd and 3rd position at the ongoing 24th edition of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) sports competition held Rivers State.
Governor Wike who made this pledge during his speech at the Opening Ceremony of the Sports Competition, said he would give out N20 million to 1st position, N15million to 2nd position and N10million to 3rd position, adding that he would also give out N5million each to all the participatory teams.
The Governor further commended the CJN, Justice Walter SN Onnoghen for encouraging the competition, saying that it will boost the health and strength of the judiciary workers.
He assured the participants their safety and security while in the state.
“I thank the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen, for encouraging this sports competition which will aid the health of the judiciary workers. Is not only litigation, litigation, they should also make out time for the kind of exercise.
“At the end of this programme, I will give out N20 million for any team that takes 1st position in this competition, 2nd position N15million and 3rd position N10million. Also, N5million each will go to all participatory team whether they win or not.”
He said that Rivers State will always continue to play host to sporting and entertainment events because of the peaceful nature of the state.
While appreciating the sports men and women of the judiciary for choosing the state, he urged them to explore the nightlife of Port Harcourt and other relaxation spots.
Earlier in his opening speech, the CJN, Hon Justice Walter Onnoghen, commended Governor Nyesom Wike for his exceptional support of judiciary system in the state, noting that the Governor has turned Rivers State into hub of judiciary.
Represented by the Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Justice Sidi Dauda Bage, Onnoghen said that Rivers State ranks the highest in terms of support to the judiciary and her activities.
He urged other states to emulates Rivers State for the growth of the sector.
Onnoghen said that sports helps members of the Judiciary to remain fit in order to carry out their responsibilities effectively and good health.
“I thank the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike for his development in the judiciary sector.
“The Judiciary of Nigeria will say thank you to the governor for the kind support the judiciary gets in Rivers, is second to none ”
Meanwhile, thirty courts and judicial bodies affiliated with the National Sports Association for Judiciary are participating at the event while 12 states with observer status are attending
