Ebenebe Community keys into Anambra govt. monthly sanitation exercise

CYNTHIA CHIDIMMA IGBOKWE writes that the people of Ebenebe in Awka north Local government area of Anambra State have agreed to key into the monthly sanitation exercise usually observe in major cities of the state last Saturday of every month.

Hon. Paul Nnatuanya, the President General of Ebenebe Town Union (ETU), who disclosed this in his inaugural speech, explained that his administration would champion as well as ensuring that the exercise is sustained.

According to him, the sanitation exercise which became necessary due to various developments ongoing in the community, would be observed in all parts of the 8 villages of Ebenebe especially the access roads. The villages are Umuaba, Umuji, Umuoye, Umuajana, Obuno,Uwani. Umuogbuefi, and Okpuno.

The President General while enjoining the indigenes and residents of Ebenebe to support the move, noted that ETU will work with the government to bring to justice anyone caught evading sanitation or any act of uncleanliness such as littering the streets with eateries, indiscriminate dumping of refuse, building on the water channels, and others.

He further called on the state government to remember to complete the Ezu Bridge which connects the community and eight other communities in Awka North and Enugu state.

In a remark, the Traditional Ruler of Ebenebe, Igwe Christopher Nnaegbuna, while thanking his subjects for electing the new executive, urged them to work with love and one voice as well as to avoid whatever that could impede the peace and development of the community.

Speaking on behalf of other executives and youths, Chief Benjamin Ilonwa, first Vice Chairman ETU; and Johnbosco Anaracha, assured that the new leadership would not be like the previous one that held the community in crises for twelve years.

According to Ilonwa and Anaracha, Ebenebe was peaceful and ever ready to receive more government presence, local and international investors throughout the tenure of the new executive of ETU and beyond.

Inaugurating the executive earlier, Bar. Sunday Eze from Anambra State Ministry of Town Union and Chieftaincy matters advised them on teamwork with the traditional ruler to achieve desired results.

Meanwhile, ETU has inaugurated a committee to oversee the 2018 Ebenebe Day ( cultural fiesta) billed to hold on 31st December.

The committee has Benjamin Ilonwa as Chairman, Cletus Nnenna as Secretary, Johnbosco Anaracha, Innocent Maduakor, Okechukwu Onuegbu, Innocent Chukwuka, Raymond Arinze, and others as members.
