The President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has vowed to sustain the already existing cordial relationship it enjoyed over the years with the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) to ensure harmony in the health sector for the growth and development of the country.
In a statement to felicitate with the PSN on the celebration of World Pharmacists day, the NMA President, Francis Adedayo Faduyile, called on the pharmacists to reflect on the poor health indices of the country and come out with specific roles they can play to halt the situation.
The statement which was signed by the Spokesman of the NMA, Dr. Obitade Sunday Obimakinde, noted that: “In line with the theme for this year’s celebration, we urge the PSN to reflect on the poor health indices of Nigerians and come out with the roles you can play to stem the ugly tide. The prescription right abuse with the abuse of narcotics as well as codeine needs the concerted efforts of all stakeholders to curb the menace.
“We also wish to reiterate our commitment to maintain the already established cordiality and collaboration with your members, ensuring harmony within the health sector for the benefit of the patients.”
According to the NMA President, the theme for this year’s celebration: “Pharmacists: your medicines experts” was not doubt, a reflection of the important and key role played by Pharmacists within the healthcare team globally.
The NMA commended the PSN President, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, for the strong leadership he provided to the PSN over the years.
