The organizers of the annual Access Bank Lagos City Marathon have said that their target for the 2019 edition is to move it from the current bronze label to silver label.
Managing of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe stated this yesterday at the maiden world press conference to herald the 4th edition slated to hold on February 2, 2019.
According him the of the marathon has the entire narrative of Lagos and help to the state in the marathon map of the world, promising that they will not make the next edition totally different from the past editions but will continue to sponsor it as long as possible.
Also speaking, governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode said that they are looking forward to host 150,000 participants so as to create a new record.
Governor Ambode explained that the prize money still remain the same, while that of the physically challenged athletes and the first Nigerians to reach the finish line has been increased so as to encourage local participation in the race.
Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Tandor announced that the state government has approved the construction of Lagos Marathon Village at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, while a marathon council to supervise the race has been set up.
