The city of Abuja will come alive from November 22-26 as the Roller Sports Federation of Nigeria holds its’ 1st RSFN National Championship.
President of the federation, Comrade Joseph Evah, told The Authority in an interview in Lagos that over 500 male and female skaters from 20 states of the federation are expected to compete for laurels at the championship exclusive for only registered skaters of the federation.
According to Comrade Evah the championship which is part of the federation efforts to popularize the sport in the country will feature 10 events in both the male and female categories, namely; 42.5 km marathon, 15km elimination, 100m time trial, 200m, 300m, 500m, 10, 000m, 20,000m, Slaom (speed and battle on cone) and aggressive (long jump and high jump) with winners in each event going home with N100, 000 prize money and medal.
Silver and bronze medalists will receive N70, 000 and N50, 000 respectively, while the overall winning state will return home with a giant trophy for it effort.
“This is going to be a unique championship for the fact that for the first time states are going to face states and clubs from different states will also counter other clubs from different states. So that’s why the excitement to make your state the best or get the first position will make this competition totally different from other competitions.
“On logistics, let me inform you that people are in Abuja now; we’ve mobilized them for accommodation, feeding arrangement and everything and as we speak all is going on fine,” said
“I’m impressed with entries so far and based on that we’re expecting more 500 skaters from 20 states and clubs in the country and we look forward to having a very competitive championship,” he added.
