EVEREST EZIHE writes that last weekend Imo state stood still for Ihim autonomous community in Isiala Mbano council area of Imo State as over 350 traditional rulers from various parts of the country honoured the ancient autonomous community’s 2018 Iwaji cultural cum traditional heritage.
The traditional rural of the foremost community HRH Eze Oliver Ohanweh drums support for President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo second term presidential ambition.
Eze Ohanwe popularly called Obi-Gburugburu said that “people without culture and tradition is as good as dead. Our culture of Iwaji festival is part of our cultural heritages which we protect and guide jealously.
Eze Ohanwe while speaking on his throne and performing the 2018 ancestral prayers of blessings as their custom demands by raising his ancestral but ancient staff of office heritage and said that “As a royal father, who believes in Igbo agenda, it is only the realization of the second term Presidential ambition of Buhari/Osinbanjo ticket that will seal the age long demand for Nigerian President of Igbo extraction in 2018”.
The traditional ruler further commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his administration’s commitment towards eradication of corruption and advised him on the need to institute Aggressive War Against Corruption (AWAC) noting corruption as the bane of Nigerian Society.
The traditional ruler also canvassed the need for all the tiers of government in Nigeria to give priority attention to agriculture by encouraging mechanized farming and timely provision of fertilizer and other agricultural inputs.
It is pertinent to recall that the occasion was heralded by early morning shooting of 24 cannon shots by each of the seven villages that constituted the autonomous community as a traditional way of waking up the traditional ruler, the subjects and their ancestors for the animal historic event.
This was followed by the traditional ruler and his cabinet members in a beautiful traditional regalia systematically worked done to the royal father’s original ancestral compound to uproot the 2018 Iwa ji symbol of authority. This significantly, suggested the taking of permission from the previous but dead traditional rulers as well as their ancestors to guarantee success of the occasion.
Impressively, each of the seven villages that constituted the autonomous community bought the yams harvested by Eze Ohanwe with ancient cowries while three eminent personalities bought each of the remaining three tubers of yam with cash of N1m, N500k and N250k respectively.
Another highlight of the occasion was an award of excellence and appreciation to some distinguished Nigerians by Association of Christian Royal Fathers of Nigeria, the beneficiaries were Senator Godwin Ifeanyi Ararume, Prof. Maurice Iwu and Hon. Princess Gloria Akobundu.
Among the litany of traditional rulers that graced the occasion and as led by His Imperial Majesty, King Kelly Akalakwu of Igbariam Kingdom in Anambra State, HRM Eze Thomas Obiefule (Oka Eruru of Umudioka), HRH Eze Prof. Amobi Uwalaeke of Uratta ancient kingdom, HRH Eze Douglas Okwarachukwu, HRH Eze Nelson Obasi, HRH Eze Emeka Ogoke, HRH Eze Isreal Nwaimo, HRH Eze Orijejem of Ntije, HRH Eze Paul Onyekachi and HRH Eze Celestine Iwuagwu among others.
