MAURICE OKAFOR writes that His Royal Highness, Igwe Ambassador Lawrence Agubuzo, who is currently the chairman of traditional rulers council in Enugu state was overwhelmed with joy when a group of citizens operating under the aegis of ‘Voters Support Group’ who have volunteered to sensitize every Nigerian of voting age resident in the state of the vital need of collecting and owning their voters card for actual voting during the 2019 General elections.
‘Voters Support Group’ paid him and other Monarchs a courtesy call at the Enugu state House of Chiefs located within the Enugu state house of assembly hall.
They told Igwe Agubuzo they would sensitize the seventeen local government areas of the state, as part of their corporate social responsibility to the society, most especially their immediate environment, Enugu state.
Igwe Agubuzo promised that henceforth the liaison officers attached to each of the traditional rulers in the state will assist the group in reaching out to the grass roots in their respective domains in their arduous task of making sure every registered voter goes to collect his or her Permanent Voters Card[PVC’s] so they will fully exercise their franchise/civil obligations during the 2019 General elections by coming out to vote massively for candidates of their choice during the elections.
The Coordinators of the group Hon Ignatius Ishienyi and Hon Chika Igwesi said what informed them to embark on the mission of voters card sensitization and collection is a motivation to let the majority of the people participate in the democratic process as a measure of promoting and projecting good governance in Enugu state.
Hon Chika Igwesi said that they have undergone several phases of the project, as they initially visited every word in the state to at the onset of the voters registration exercise and sensitized the rural dwellers to spare out time to be registered. He disclosed that they had also engaged the voters on voter education so as to reduce the number of ‘void votes’ during the elections.
