ASUU Strike paralysis academic activities at SSU and UDUS

The strike embarking upon by Academic Staff Union Of University ASUU has paralyzed academic activities at Sokoto State University (SSU) and Usman Danfodio University (UDUS) Sokoto.

At Sokoto State University (SSU) the chairman of ASUU Dr Attahiru Ahmad Sifawa said in view of directive from the national body directing all branch of the Union to embark on indefinite strike ,the branch have no option than to comply.

Attahiru who berated the comments of minister of education Mallam Adamu Adamu Explained that it is unfortunate on the part of the minister instead of trailing on the part of dialogue chose the choice of blaming previous administration for entering into agreement with ASUU.

Commenting the student of the university Miss Rakiya Ibrahim pleaded with government and ASUU to dialogue in the best interest of poor students.

According to her some of them traveled from far distance and they don’t know when ASUU will call off the strike.

New admitted students were going about their registration as non academic staff who were not part of the strike were attending to them

At Usman Danfodio university Authority gathered that new admitted students were seen going about their registration as non academic staff were attending to them .

When our correspondence called at the ASUU branch chairman for his comments he was not available to respond .

An academic staff who speak on condition of anonymity said Nigerians should blame the Federal government who always need force before they could resort to dialogue.

He further explained that the problems were on ground since 2009 and see no reason why government have not resolve the issue and allowed it to degenerated to this level.
