Senate approves establishment of Federal Polytechnic, Silame , Sokoto State
Senate on Tuesday approved the establishment of Federal Polytechnic, Silame, saying the institution would provide technical education to the people in the zone.
In the committee’s report by Senator Jibrin Barau, representing Kano North Senatorial district, stated that Polytechnic education became necessary in view of the fact that, the people of Silame are particularly highly industrialised people.
He added that, the committee’s investigation has revealed that, the zone has a large number of qualified people who were ready to study technical education.
“That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and Tetfund on the Federal Polytechnic, Silame, Sokoto.”
Sponsor of the bill, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, representing Sokoto North Senatorial District ,maintained in his lead debate during the first reading that, the establishment of the institution would bridge the existing educational gaps that Silame people were experiencing.
Senator Wamakko, a two-time Governor of Sokoto State assured the lawmakers of Silame people’s cooperation when the institution commences operations, adding that, Silame was strategic to technical education.
Other tertiary institutions bills passed into law by the Senate after two weeks recess were Federal Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State, Federal College of Education, Gumel, Jigawa State and Federal College of Education, Sabon Birni, in Sokoto State
