The member representing Aba North state constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Dr. Blessing Nwagba, has defected to the Social Democratic Party, (SDP).

Nwagba who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, formally defected to SDP during plenary Wednesday on the floor of the House.

Despite her defection, the PDP still maintains the overwhelming majority in the 24-member Assembly as the party has 18 members followed by the All Progressive Congress, APC which has three, while the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, has two.

She told her colleagues that she took the decision in pursuit of her political ambition having lost out at the PDP primaries.

Nwagba had contested for the Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency but lost to former occupant of the seat and Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Uzor Azubuike.

Her words :” Dear colleagues I wish to inform you that I have left my former party, PDP, and I am now in SDP. I took the decision in pursuit of my political ambition”.

Responding, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Kalu, who thanked Hon. Nwagba for informing the House of her decision wished her well in her political ambition.

Later in an interview, Hon Nwagba, who is now the governorship candidate of SDP In Abia, said part of the reasons she dump PDP was because she didn’t want to be retired in politics yet after failing to secure the party’s ticket for the House of Representatives.
