The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said that a research by McKinsey Global estimate that over 75 billion devices will be connected to the internet by the year 2025 with global economic contribution ranging from $3.9 to $11.1 Trillion dollars annually.
Speaking at a stakeholder consultative forum on 5G Readiness and High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) Technologies, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof Umar Danbatta buttressed that a research by McKinsey Global estimates over 75Billion devices will be connected to the internet by the year 2025 with global economic contribution ranging $3.9 to $11.1 Trillion dollars annually.
Speaking through the Director Spectrum Administation Austine Nwaulune, the NCC boss explained that a research conducted by GSMA in 2018 states that about 5.17 billion people were already mobile in 2017 and is projected to rise to 6 billion by 2025 stressing that in Nigeria alone going by September 2018 statistics had about 106 Million active internet subscribers.
He said the commission institutionalized a formal policy to provide an avenue for regulators, operators, investors, and other relevant stakeholders to examine, share and constructively exchange ideas to ensure regulatory excellence and operational efficiency.
