The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has unveiled new plans aimed at strengthening primary health care service delivery across (774) seven hundred and seventy four local government areas in the country.
At the NPHCDA 2018 edition of service, productivity awards and send forth ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, the Executive Director ,ED, Dr Faisal Shuaib said the agency in 2019 would build health care centres in each community where people leave or work.
He stated that the initiative was to meet up with the agency’s commitment to providing quality health care services for all Nigerians, as well as showcasing the present administration’s effort to boosting the health sector.
“In line with the present administration’s commitment to health care development, in 2019 we will intensify effort to meeting up with Nigerians healthcare needs, especially by building health care centre in each community where people work or leave”.
Shuaib said the plan which will be achievable through the continued support of Federal Government, development partners, private sector and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) was going to make health care services more accessible.
According to the director, in 2018 the agency enjoyed the support of federal government and development partners, reiterating that there was the need to do more in 2019 considering the health needs of Nigerians.
He asserted that more steps will be put in place to boost health care service delivery which remains the concern of the agency.
On the challenges confronting the agency, Shuiab identified lack of awareness as one of them, but disclosed that more will be done to improve the knowledge of community workers.
He revealed that four thousand health care centres have been so far renovated in 2018 with more to be done in 2019 agenda.
On his part, board chairman of the agency, Alhaji Attahiru Aliero commended the efforts of the staff, even as he urged them to do more.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of different gifts and awards to the staff of NPHCDA which cut across the six geo – political zones of the country, with recognition of the retired staff
