The management of the Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri is set to investigate the cause of a fire outbreak that razed down the institution’s Faculty of Humanities on Thursday.

The fire razed down several academic teaching aids, student results, properties, and the building. Several computers were also affected.

Sources told The Authority Daily that the fire started in the wee hours of Thursday, when students and staff of the institution were away.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Nze Ralph Njoku confirmed the development even as he disclosed that the incident will be investigated.

According to him, officers of the Federal Fire service were on ground to quell the fire but added that their water was exhausted without the fire totally quenched.

On their part, students lamented over the incident and expressed hopes that records of their results are replicated in other units of the institution, saying it should not amount to extra years in school or delay for the National Youth Service Service.

As at the time of this report, the fire had been contained and quenched.
