Police kill two notorious kidnappers, arrest one in Rivers

Operatives of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit in Rivers State, early hours of Friday (yesterday), stormed bet he hideout of notorious kidnappers, arrested one with two fatally wounded.

The IGP monitoring unit led by DCP Bennett Igweh, had stormed the kidnappers Dan in Khana Local Government in rescue of a female kidnap victim abducted by the hoodlums.

Addressing newsmen yesterday on the development at the state headquarters of the police command,
the state Public Relations officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, disclosed that the suspects are responsible for most crimes in Ogoni axis of the state.

While displaying the remains of the hoodlums, the arrested suspect, guns, ammunition and the victim rescued, Omoni, who addressed the press on behalf of the new Commissioner of Police in state, Usman Belel, stated that the IGP monitoring team had invaded camp of the kidnappers around 1:00am and recorded the achievement.

He said: “The new Commissioner of Police in state, Usman Belel upon resumption of duty in the state promised to tackle insecurity head on.

“They kidnapped a lady on the January 7, around Woji in Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor LGA and took her to Khana LGA. They collected N1 million from relative of the victim as ransom for her release.

“The police invaded the camp of the kidnappers around 1:00am, in Khana Local Government Area. The kidnappers engaged our men in gun battle, in the process, two of the criminals were killed and one apprehended.

“The one we arrested is cooperating with police and we have launched manhunt to arrest others who are at large.”

Meanwhile, the rescued victim, who for security reasons did not want her name in the media, said for four days that she was in the custody of the criminals, the bandits gave her two sachet of pure water without food.

She narrated that her face was tied throughout the four days she was kept in the forest till the police team can for her rescue.

Also, the surviving kidnapper who identified himself as Barinee Kpogu, admitted he was the driver of the kidnap gang, he also admitted receiving the ransom from the victim’s relative.
