Ahead Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammed Samsudeen Bello, has accused the party’s leadership of selling his mandate to an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari
Bello, who contested the APC ticket for the House of Representatives to represent Takai/Sumaila federal constituency in Kano State, alleged that the party’s hierarchy sold off his constituency candidature to President Muhammedu Buhari’s aide on National Assembly matters, Hon. Kawu Sumaila, against the constitution of the party.
He regretted that despite being the consensus candidate of party in his constituency, complicity among party bigwigs both in Abuja and Kano frustrated the will of his people, by substituting his name with that of Kawu Sumaila, who initially contested for the Kano South senatorial district primary, where he lost to Senator Kabiru Gaya
“I contested for House of Representatives Takai/Sumaila federal constituency, I won by consensus. The main contender against me, as you can see here in this photocopy of the official rooster, he does not have a waiver and was not cleared by the APC because he had not been in the APC for more than three months and the governor imposed him as a candidate for the primary. My name is at number 73 in the rooster, I was cleared. I wrote a letter, I am in the know of a letter written by Takai/ Sumaila progressive forum, received on the 10 November 2018 which was after the results came out, when we discovered that they had substituted my name.
“The party substituted my name, on the 18th of October, but some bigwigs in Kano state came and put honourable Kawu Sumaila, who had contested for Kano South senatorial primary. I have his forms both scanned and physical copies, and here are my documents, which we have also submitted at the federal high court, and you can see the case number FHC/KN/CS/04/2019.
“They now used my constituency ticket as a settlement, abusing and molesting the democratic process of Nigeria. This is an issue that affects all of us, as youths, we have people who are staunchly against us coming to participate in governance, to come and push motions that affects the lives of ordinary Nigerians and the youth.”
